The adventures of this photographer from Milan, finally told in a book by Paolo Pillitteri and Davide Mengacci, “Luca Comerio. Milanese. Fotografo, pionierie e padre del cinema italiano” (Photographer, pioneer and father of the Italian cinema), published by Spirali.
For Pirelli, Luca Comerio created the short subjects “Visita di SM il Re Vittorio Emanuele III allo stabilimento di Villanueva y Geltru“ (Visit of HRH King Vittorio Emanuele III to the facilities in Villanueva y Geltru) in 1925 and “Visita di SM il Re Vittorio Emanuele III allo stabilimento Pirelli alla Bicocca“ (Visit of HRH King Vittorio Emanuele III to Pirelli’s Bicocca facilities) in 1927, both of which are kept in the historical archives of the Pirelli Foundation and were recently restored in collaboration with the Cineteca Italiana Foundation.
The Pirelli Foundation also has a marvellous photo by Luca Comerio depicting workers leaving Pirelli’s first facilities in Via Ponte Seveso in 1905, an incredibly large photo for the time at 245x150cm.
The book, which rediscovers the modernity of this photographer and cinematographer, is to be presented on Thursday, 1 March, at 6pm at Palazzo Isimbardi, Milan.
