The production of Pirelli tyres for bicycles began in 1890, and by the early years of the twentieth century the famous \u201celongated P\u201d logo was already appearing on the jerseys of great champions such as Costante Girardengo, Alfredo Binda, Fausto Coppi and Gino Bartali. It was Alfredo Binda who, in 1949, conceived the <strong>Gran Premio Pirelli<\/strong>, an amateur cycling trophy contested through regional qualifying events culminating in a final race at Milan\u2019s Vigorelli Velodrome.
