Sports competitions soon became a platform for showcasing entrepreneurial prowess, and Pirelli swiftly garnered recognition. Right from the outset, the company intertwined its name with cycling history, as it took part in classic road races such as the Giro d\u2019Italia, the <strong>Milano-Sanremo<\/strong>, the Giro di Lombardia, and the Giro di Romagna, as well as the historic <strong>Tour de France<\/strong>, soon notching up a long series of victories. Just a few years earlier, in 1895, Pirelli itself had announced the first cycling race on the Milan-Cremona-Brescia-Milan circuit. The race was open to all cyclists \u201cwho fit tyres manufactured by the company\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The best on the market in those years were the Tipo Milano. With solid beads securely fastened to the rim, and adorned with a star and the letters<strong> P&amp;CM<\/strong> (Pirelli &amp; C. Milano) on the sidewall, these tyres powered riders like Gilberto Marley and Narciso Pasta on bicycles with chain transmission and wheels of the same size. These were made by top manufacturers such as Dei, Maino, Orio Marchand, and later Atala, Frera, Ganna, and Legnano, the last of which became a legend alongside its rival Bianchi. The acclaim for the <strong>Long P<\/strong> extended beyond the borders of Italy.
