That Friday, 28 January, in \u201977 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fondazionepirelli.org\/archivio-storico\/audiovisivi\/detail\/IT-PIRELLI-AV0001-000540\/rally-10.html?jsonVal={%22jsonVal%22:{%22query%22:%22Montecarlo%22,%22startDate%22:%22%22,%22endDate%22:%22%22,%22fieldDate%22:%22dataNormal%22,%22_perPage%22:20}}&amp;attachmentMisc=undefined&amp;lang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Sandro Munari<\/span><\/a>, the \u201cDragon\u201d, driver for <strong>Lancia Stratos<\/strong> with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fondazionepirelli.org\/archivio-storico\/fattienotiziepirellibookreader\/pubblicazioni-e-riviste\/FattieNotiziePirelli\/1976_02_FATTI_E_NOTIZIE.html?q=P7&amp;start=9&amp;lang=en#page\/8\/mode\/2up\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Pirelli P7 tyres<\/span><\/a> fitted, stood on the podium of the Monte Carlo Rally for the third consecutive year. With him the trusty navigator, <strong>Silvio Maiga<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p id=\"\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\">Munari, Maiga, Stratos<\/span> and P7 had already pulled it off in the Principality in the January of the previous year and the Dragon had declared to the corporate newspaper Fatti e Notizie [\u201cFacts and News\u201d]: \u201cif the rally route had been completely covered in snow I would still have won: the Stratos is the strongest car and the P7 tyres would have done well on snow too. In fact in the only trial with snow we recorded the best time, with a considerable lead\u201d.<\/p>\n<p id=\"\">Munari had embarked on the Monaco hat trick in <span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-weight: bold;\">1975,<\/span> paired with <strong>Mannucci<\/strong> and again driving the<span class=\"Apple-style-span\"> Lancia Stratos<\/span>, the \u201cwild beast\u201d which for a year already had dominated the rallies thanks also to the super-low profile Pirelli P7 tyres. Years in which, in addition to Munari, drivers of the calibre of <span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Bjorn Waldegaard<\/span>, <span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Walter R\u00f6hrl<\/span> and naturally <span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Markku Alen<\/span> raced for Pirelli. For the Stratos the cars to beat were \u201crivals\u201d in a certain sense, seeing as they were called <strong>Fiat 124 Abarth<\/strong> and, above all, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fondazionepirelli.org\/archivio-storico\/fattienotiziepirellibookreader\/pubblicazioni-e-riviste\/FattieNotiziePirelli\/1977_06_FATTI_E_NOTIZIE.html?q=P7&amp;start=18&amp;lang=en#page\/18\/mode\/2up\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Fiat 131 Abarth<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p id=\"\">However Pirelli P7 succeeded in reconciling everyone, cool Nordic drivers and crafty and imaginative Mediterranean types, cars designed almost specifically for racing and the<strong> \u201cracing\u201d versions of popular models<\/strong> (cf. the 131&#8230;). It was possibly not just a question of <strong>product excellence<\/strong>: the legend of the <strong>organisational efficiency of the<\/strong> <span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Pirelli racing team<\/span> was created at that time. \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fondazionepirelli.org\/archivio-storico\/fattienotiziepirellibookreader\/pubblicazioni-e-riviste\/FattieNotiziePirelli\/1974_05_FATTI_E_NOTIZIE.html?q=I%20magnifici%20quindici&amp;start=15&amp;lang=en#page\/14\/mode\/2up\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\">The Magnificent Fifteen<\/span><\/a>\u201d as <strong>Fatti e Notizie<\/strong> called them as early as <strong>1974<\/strong> in an article dedicated to those working in this sport, interest in which was growing year after year. \u201c<i>They are not drivers, navigators or mechanics, yet they are part of the varied and multicoloured carousel of international rallies. The most important and delicate task of this specialist team is that of technical consultancy and organisation of the service points.
