{"id":51190,"date":"2016-09-16T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2016-09-16T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.fondazionepirelli.org\/fondazione-pirelli\/pirelli-and-the-mito-festival-music-at-work\/"},"modified":"2020-01-17T13:58:06","modified_gmt":"2020-01-17T12:58:06","slug":"pirelli-and-the-mito-festival-music-at-work","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fondazionepirelli.org\/en\/activities\/pirelli-and-the-mito-festival-music-at-work\/","title":{"rendered":"Pirelli and the MITO Festival: Music \u201cAt Work\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Pirelli started collaborating with the <strong>MITO SettembreMusica Festival<\/strong> back in <strong>2007<\/strong>; a bond in keeping with the custom of consolidating relationship between enterprises and culture that Pirelli has always fostered by promoting artistic, cultural and educational activities.<\/p>\n<p>The tradition runs deep: suffice it to mention that <strong>in 1954 the eclectic American music composer John Cage<\/strong>, famous for the composition entitled 4\u201933\u201d (which are the minutes of silence of the piece),<strong> performed at the Pirelli Cultural Centre with David Tudor<\/strong> in a \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fondazionepirelli.org\/archivio-storico\/fattienotiziepirellibookreader\/pubblicazioni-e-riviste\/FattieNotiziePirelli\/1954_11_FATTI_E_NOTIZIE.html?q=concerto%20per%20pianoforti%20preparati&amp;start=12&amp;lang=en#page\/12\/mode\/2up\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">concerto for prepared pianos<\/a>\u201d. Screws, metal balls, spoons, clothing pegs, bamboo sticks, clock gears and other objects were applied to the strings of the two pianos to produce unprecedented effects and shock \u2013 both positively and negatively \u2013 the members of what was said to be \u201cone of the most educated audiences in town\u201d. In this context, <strong>Pirelli started promoting the events of the MITO Festival in 2010 in the company\u2019s industrial spaces, to reassert the bond between the places of work and those of music<\/strong> as an expression of the <em>industrial humanism<\/em> which historically identifies the corporation.<\/p>\n<p>An orchestra pitted against factory spaces in the <strong>2010<\/strong> edition of the Festival: the old <strong>plant in Settimo Torinese<\/strong> hosted <strong>\u201cI Fiati di Torino\u201d of the local RAI Symphonic Orchestra<\/strong>. The performance\u00a0 included compositions by Mozart, Bach, Beethoven, Berio, Gabrieli, Saglietti and Stravinskij and was held in front of an audience of over four hundred people.<\/p>\n<p>Following the success of the 2010 edition, musicians returned to the factory for MITO <strong>2011<\/strong>: this time, the <strong>\u201cPomeriggi Musicali\u201d orchestra<\/strong>, conducted by maestro <strong>Luca Pfaff<\/strong>, performed in the revamped spaces of the Settimo Torinese Industrial Hub. The programme featured compositions by Darius Milhaud (suite from the ballet \u201cLe boeuf sur le toit\u201d), Artur Honegger (\u201cPastoral d\u2019\u00e9t\u00e9\u201d), Manuel De Falla (suite from the ballet \u201cEl Amor Brujo\u201d) and Igor\u00a0Stravinskij (\u201cSuite for chamber orchestra No. 1 and No. 2&#8243;).<\/p>\n<p>In September <strong>2014<\/strong>, instead, the <strong>Torino Philharmonic Orchestra<\/strong> performed at the Settimo Torinese Industrial Hub. The musicians conducted by <strong>Micha Hamel<\/strong> performed \u201cSymphony No. 1 in C Major, op. 21\u201d and \u201cSymphony No. in A major, op. 92\u201d by Ludwig van Beethoven and were applauded by one thousand people. <strong>\u201cLa Settima a Settimo\u201d<\/strong> \u2013 a play on words: the seventh in Settimo, which in addition to being the name of the town also means &#8220;seventh&#8221; in Italian \u2013 always draws many Pirelli employees.<\/p>\n<p>For the 2016 edition, under the guidance of the new artistic director <strong>Nicola Campogrande<\/strong>, Pirelli will be hosting one of the musical appointments this time in the headquarters instead of in the factory. <strong>On Sunday 18 September<\/strong>, at 9 p.m., the Auditorium of the <strong>HQ1 building<\/strong> \u2013 erected around the old cooling tower of the <strong>Milano Bicocca<\/strong> plant \u2013 will stage of the performance entitled \u201cI figli di Beethoven\u201d: \u201cAltus Trio\u201d will play \u201cTrio in E-flat major, op. 70 n. 2\u201d by Ludwig van Beethoven and \u201cTrio in F major, op. 80\u201d by Robert Schumann.<\/p>\n<p><!--VIDEO Music is playing in the Pirelli factory and work places once again.--><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pirelli started collaborating with the MITO SettembreMusica Festival back in 2007; a bond in keeping with the custom of consolidating relationship between enterprises and culture that Pirelli has always fostered by promoting artistic, cultural and educational activities.
