To celebrate this memorable event, the\u00a0<strong>Regione Lombardia<\/strong> is holding <strong>&#8220;The Ages of the Skyscraper\u201d<\/strong> exhibition on the 26th floor of the skyscraper, in collaboration with the <strong>Milan Triennale<\/strong> and as part of the 21st International Exhibition currently on in Milan. The anniversary is also being celebrated with unique Pirelli Foundation: photographs, drawings and posters illustrating the construction of the skyscraper and the Pirelli years.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Work began on<\/strong> the Pirelli Centre, known to all as the <strong>\u201cPirelli Tower\u201d, in 1955<\/strong> to a project by a group of professionals led by the <strong>architect<\/strong>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fondazionepirelli.org\/archivio-storico\/bookreader\/pubblicazioni-e-riviste\/RivistaPirelli\/1970_9.html?q=Perpetuit%C3%A0%20di%20un%20edificio&amp;start=26&amp;lang=en#page\/26\/mode\/2up\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Gio Pont<\/strong><strong>i<\/strong><\/a>. It was \u00a0<strong>Alberto and Piero Pirelli<\/strong> in person who wanted the company&#8217;s new premises to be built on the site formerly occupied by the <strong>Cascina Brusada,<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>destroyed by\u00a0bombing in 1943<\/strong> and right opposite the place where the <strong>first factory had been constructed in 1872<\/strong>. When it was inaugurated in 1960, the Pirelli Centre was hailed as more than an architectural masterpiece or the\u00a0 modern headquarters of a great multinational corporation. It immediately came to symbolise a fresh leap into the future by a country busy constructing its \u201ceconomic miracle\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The documents selected from the Pirelli History Archives include pictures from its abundant <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fondazionepirelli.org\/archivio-storico\/fotografie\/search\/result.html?collanaName=%22Pirelli%20tower%22&amp;lang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>photographic archives<\/strong><\/a> retracing every step of its construction: <strong>from casting the first foundations to inauguration<\/strong>, and illustrating the <strong>building&#8217;s interiors and exteriors<\/strong>. Also on show are covers of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rivistapirelli.org\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>\u201cPirelli\u201d magazine<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0(1955,1958\u00a0and\u00a01959), an\u00a0<strong>original design<\/strong>\u00a0portraying the site of the<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>factory in Via Ponte Seveso<\/strong>\u00a0dated\u00a01922\u00a0and built for the celebrations of its 5oth anniversary, and the catalogue\u201c<strong>La moda e il grattacielo<\/strong>\u201d with photos by <strong>Ugo Mulas<\/strong> and a layout by <strong>Bob Noorda<\/strong>. A 1964 poster in which a young <strong>Umberto Eco<\/strong> is asked to preside over a talk on &#8220;Cultural industry and mass industry&#8221; also illustrates the life of the skyscraper and cultural events held at the \u201c<strong>Pirelli Cultural Centre<\/strong>\u201d. Visitors are accompanied by quotes from an article by <strong>Dino Buzzati<\/strong> containing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rivistapirelli.org\/en\/selezione_antologica\/piccole-storie-del-grattacielo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">skyscraper anecdotes<\/a>\u00a0and published in the \u201cPirelli\u201d magazine.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The exhibition opened on 25 May<\/strong> in the presence of representatives from the Regione Lombardia, the Triennale and the Pirelli Foundation.<\/p>\n<p>The history of the skyscraper is included on the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fondazionepirelli.org\/en\/event\/industrial-architecture\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>The Architectures of Industry<\/strong>: from the Bicocca Project to the Industrial Centre in Settimo Torinese exhibition route. An itinerary visiting Pirelli locations and stories<\/a>\u201d curated by the Pirelli Foundation and part of the 21st Triennale di Milano International Exposition \u2013 <strong>\u201c21st Century.
