These are the initial words of a short article on the company&#8217;s house organ, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fondazionepirelli.org\/archivio-storico\/fattienotiziepirellibookreader\/pubblicazioni-e-riviste\/FattieNotiziePirelli\/1959_02_FATTI_E_NOTIZIE.html?q=Salone%20di%20Ginevra&amp;start=3&amp;lang=en#page\/2\/mode\/2up\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Fatti &amp; Notizie<\/strong><\/a> dating back to <strong>1959<\/strong> regarding the <strong>Geneval International Motor Show<\/strong>, one of the biggest car shows, which was inaugurated in <strong>1905<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>For Pirelli, the Motor Show has always meant new challenges, but also the opportunity to present <strong>innovation and technology<\/strong>, to support newly arising needs ahead of time. <strong>Pirelli<\/strong> has attended the Motor Show since <strong>1929<\/strong>, presenting its entire <strong>range of tyres<\/strong>; in the 1950s first, and then in the 1960s, it was star of the show with <strong>uber-modern booths<\/strong> designed by famous architects and designers and with the presentation of new tyres. At the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fondazionepirelli.org\/archivio-storico\/fotografie\/detail\/IT-PIRELLI-FT0001-0000006515\/salone-internazionale-auto-ginevra-del-1953.html?jsonVal={%22jsonVal%22:{%22query%22:%22Salone%20di%20Ginevra%22,%22startDate%22:%22%22,%22endDate%22:%22%22,%22fieldDate%22:%22dataNormal%22,%22_perPage%22:20}}&amp;attachmentMisc=undefined&amp;lang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>1953 show<\/strong><\/a>, the Pirelli booth hosted a car that made it possible to simulate the behaviour of tyres on the road, accompanying its movements with a soundtrack recorded in Italian and in French. Four Pirelli tyres were fitted on the Ferrari driven by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fondazionepirelli.org\/archivio-storico\/fotografie\/detail\/IT-PIRELLI-FT0001-0000007133\/il-pilota-umberto-maglioli-al-gran-premio-d-italia-del-1954.html?jsonVal={%22jsonVal%22:{%22query%22:%22Umberto%20Maglioli%22,%22startDate%22:%22%22,%22endDate%22:%22%22,%22fieldDate%22:%22dataNormal%22,%22_perPage%22:20}}&amp;attachmentMisc=undefined&amp;lang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Umberto Maglioli<\/strong><\/a> at the Carrera in Mexico.<\/p>\n<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fondazionepirelli.org\/archivio-storico\/fotografie\/detail\/IT-PIRELLI-FT0001-0000006575\/salone-internazionale-auto-ginevra-del-1955.html?lang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>1955<\/strong><\/a>, for the <strong>Fiat 600<\/strong>, the &#8220;best affordable small 4-seater car&#8221; presented at the Show, Pirelli designed and produced the &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fondazionepirelli.org\/archivio-storico\/disegni-e-manifesti\/search\/result.html?query=Rolle&amp;oggettoIco=&amp;titoloIco=&amp;autoreAmbitoIco=&amp;descrizioneIco=&amp;startDate=&amp;endDate=&amp;campagnaIco=&amp;lang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Rolle<\/b><\/a>&#8221; tyre specifically: the cover page of the &#8220;Pirelli&#8221; magazine that year was in fact dedicated to <b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fondazionepirelli.org\/archivio-storico\/bookreader\/pubblicazioni-e-riviste\/RivistaPirelli\/1955_1.html?q=Dante%20Giacosa&amp;start=17&amp;lang=en#page\/1\/mode\/2up\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dante Giacosa<\/a>,<\/b> the designer of the legendary 600. For the <b>Fiat 1800<\/b> presented at the 1959 Motor Show, Pirelli produced the &#8220;<strong>Sempione<\/strong>&#8221; tyre. Sempione Rolle and Cinturato were the true stars of mass motoring during the economic boom. At the <strong>30th\u00b0 Geneva International Motor Show<\/strong> in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fondazionepirelli.org\/archivio-storico\/fotografie\/detail\/IT-PIRELLI-FT0001-0000006681\/salone-internazionale-auto-ginevra-del-1960.html?jsonVal={%22jsonVal%22:{%22query%22:%22Salone%20di%20Ginevra%22,%22startDate%22:%22%22,%22endDate%22:%22%22,%22fieldDate%22:%22dataNormal%22,%22_perPage%22:20}}&amp;attachmentMisc=undefined&amp;lang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>1960<\/strong><\/a>, Pirelli presented a tyre with an interchangeable tread, the <strong>BS3<\/strong>, which was an absolute technological revolution. Consequently a generously-sized booth of 200 square metres was set up to allow interested spectators to see demonstrations of how these were fitted and removed.<\/p>\n<p>In <strong>1967<\/strong>, an article published in the &#8220;<strong>Pirelli<\/strong>&#8221; <strong>magazine<\/strong> entitled &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fondazionepirelli.org\/archivio-storico\/bookreader\/pubblicazioni-e-riviste\/RivistaPirelli\/1967_2.html?q=Ginevra%20degli%20autieri&amp;start=52&amp;lang=en#page\/52\/mode\/2up\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ginevra degli autieri<\/a>&#8221; (literally Geneva for drivers) spoke of the establishment of a new car concept: the<strong> sports car<\/strong>. Geneva, which sets the &#8220;fashion trend of the year&#8221;, recalibrates a new way to travel: after years in which the car was used mostly as a means to an end to do your shopping, the car goes back to doing what it was conceived for: travelling. Powerful, designer cars &#8211; the first was the <strong>Ford Mustang<\/strong> &#8211; made an appearance and were hugely admired by the public. In <strong>1966<\/strong> &#8211; exactly 50 years ago &#8211; Lamborghini presented the prototype of the &#8220;<b>Miura<\/b>&#8220;, a masterpiece of a car, fitted with Pirelli tyres. Its designer, <strong>Marcello Gandini<\/strong>, recalls how &#8220;at the time, the only type of tyre available for this type of car was the <strong>Pirelli 205\/70-15<\/strong>&#8220;; the year after, the &#8220;<b>Marzal<\/b>&#8221; prototype built by <strong>Bertone<\/strong> on Lamborghini 2000 mechanics was presented.
