“The ages of the skyscraper<\/a>“<\/strong> is to become a permanent exhibition, supported by the Regional Council of Lombardy and the Milan Triennale with the cooperation of the Pirelli Foundation to celebrate 60 years since the first brick of the “Pirellone” tower was laid<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The exhibition, first opened on 25 May 2016<\/strong> and part of the 26th World Expo<\/strong>, has been visited by more than 13,000 people<\/strong>: a sign of the affection held for this important symbol of the city of Milan<\/strong>, leading to the decision to give the exhibition a permanent home across several floors of the Pirelli skyscraper while maintaining the selection of the most important milestones in the life of the building: its construction, the accident with an aircraft in 2002<\/strong> and its recent restoration.<\/p>\n

The contribution of the Pirelli Foundation was vital for the preparation of the first part of the exhibition, which features the building’s construction<\/strong> and the period in which the skyscraper was the headquarters for the Central Management of Pirelli<\/strong>.This section is now installed in front of the hall dedicated to the architect and designer of the building, Gio Ponti<\/a><\/strong>. Among the documents selected by the Pirelli Historical Archive<\/strong> and reproduced in the exhibition are images taken from its rich bank of photographs<\/a> to reconstruct the various stages of construction: from the plaster of the first foundations<\/strong> to its grand opening<\/strong>, and also including the documentation of the interiors and exteriors<\/strong> of the building which are now available in our online archive . You can also enjoy reproductions of selected covers from the “Pirelli” magazine (1955, 1958 and 1959) and the catalogue “La moda e il grattacielo” (Fashion and the skyscraper”), featuring the photography of Ugo Mulas<\/strong> and layout by Bob Noorda<\/strong>. Visitors are accompanied throughout the exhibition by quotes from an article by Dino Buzzati<\/strong> published in the \u201cPirelli\u201d magazine in 1970, “Piccole storie del grattacielo<\/a>” (Short skycraper stories).<\/p>\n
