It was originally the idea of <strong>Arrigo Castellani<\/strong>, the Pirelli press and advertising director. As well as topics specifically related to the sector, the magazine also contained articles on current events, society, and entertainment. And the front covers were devoted to the top <strong>cinema stars<\/strong> of the moment.<\/p>\n<p>It was the twenty-four-year-old <strong>Claudia Cardinale<\/strong> who graced the cover in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fondazionepirelli.org\/archivio-storico\/pubblicazioni-e-riviste\/search\/result.html?query=&amp;jsonVal=%7B%22jsonVal%22%3A%7B%22query%22%3A%22La+gattoparda%22%2C%22startDate%22%3A%22%22%2C%22endDate%22%3A%22%22%2C%22fieldDate%22%3A%22dataNormal%22%2C%22_perPage%22%3A20%7D%7D&amp;riviste_facet=%22entertainment%22\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">December 1962<\/a>. She had just finished <em>Girl with a Suitcase<\/em>, which once again confirmed her as a star of Italian cinema, after <em>Big Deal on Madonna Street<\/em>, <em>Il Bell\u2019Antonio<\/em>, and <em>Rocco and His Brothers<\/em>. For <em>Vado e Torno<\/em>, Cardinale <strong>dressed up as Angelica, the splendid protagonist of Luchino Visconti\u2019s <em>The Leopard<\/em><\/strong>. The cover of April 1963: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fondazionepirelli.org\/archivio-storico\/pubblicazioni-e-riviste\/search\/result.html?query=&amp;jsonVal=%7B%22jsonVal%22%3A%7B%22startDate%22%3A1963%2C%22endDate%22%3A1963%2C%22fieldDate%22%3A%22dataNormal%22%2C%22_perPage%22%3A20%2C%22numeroRivista%22%3A4%7D%7D&amp;titolo_father_string=%22Vado+e+Torno%22&amp;lang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Monica Vitti<\/strong><\/a> was by now the <strong>female icon of Michelangelo Antonioni\u2019s movies<\/strong>. After <em>The Adventure<\/em>, <em>La Notte<\/em>, and <em>L\u2019Eclisse<\/em>, the masterpiece <em>Red Desert<\/em> was just about to come onto cinema screens. In October of the same year, 1963, <strong>Stefania Sandrelli<\/strong> was just seventeen but the public had already seen the sensational charm with which the actress from Viareggio had played the part of Angela in <em>Divorce Italian Style<\/em>. The dress, the gathered-up hair, and the black makeup on her eyes on the cover of <em>Vado and Torno<\/em> take us instead to Agnese \u2013 the woman who is \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fondazionepirelli.org\/archivio-storico\/pubblicazioni-e-riviste\/search\/result.html?query=10&amp;jsonVal=%7B%22jsonVal%22%3A%7B%22query%22%3A%22Sedotta+e+abbandonata%22%2C%22startDate%22%3A%22%22%2C%22endDate%22%3A%22%22%2C%22fieldDate%22%3A%22dataNormal%22%2C%22_perPage%22%3A20%2C%22riviste_facet%22%3A%22%5C%22entertainment%5C%22%22%7D%7D&amp;lang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">seduced and abandoned<\/a>\u201d by the young <strong>Peppino Califano<\/strong> \u2013 whose part she played in the famous film by <strong>Pietro Germi<\/strong>. And then comes <strong>Sofia Loren<\/strong>, or rather \u201cSophia\u201d, as we read on the cover of <em>Vado and Torno<\/em> of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fondazionepirelli.org\/archivio-storico\/pubblicazioni-e-riviste\/search\/result.html?query=&amp;jsonVal=%7B%22jsonVal%22%3A%7B%22query%22%3A%22Sophia%22%2C%22startDate%22%3A1963%2C%22endDate%22%3A1963%2C%22fieldDate%22%3A%22dataNormal%22%2C%22_perPage%22%3A20%2C%22numeroRivista%22%3A12%7D%7D&amp;riviste_facet=%22entertainment%22&amp;lang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">December 1966<\/a>. <strong>Vittorio De Sica<\/strong>\u2019s <em>Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow<\/em> was coming out just then. Three episodes, with three different Lorens, and three different Mastroiannis.<\/p>\n<p>Hollywood landed on the front cover of the \u201croad hauliers\u2019 magazine\u201d in April 1964, with the inimitable charms of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fondazionepirelli.org\/archivio-storico\/pubblicazioni-e-riviste\/search\/result.html?query=&amp;jsonVal=%7B%22jsonVal%22%3A%7B%22query%22%3A%22Il+girotondo+di+Jane%22%2C%22startDate%22%3A%22%22%2C%22endDate%22%3A%22%22%2C%22fieldDate%22%3A%22dataNormal%22%2C%22_perPage%22%3A20%7D%7D&amp;riviste_facet=%22entertainment%22\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Jane Fonda<\/strong><\/a>. The twenty-seven-year-old New Yorker, daughter of the great Henry, was maybe not quite yet a star of the silver screen, but she already knew the director <strong>Roger Vadim<\/strong>, whom she would marry the following year. When he turned her into Barbarella in 1968, Jane Fonda became an international celebrity. The front cover in May 1964 went to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fondazionepirelli.org\/archivio-storico\/pubblicazioni-e-riviste\/search\/result.html?query=&amp;jsonVal=%7B%22jsonVal%22%3A%7B%22query%22%3A%22Brigitte%22%2C%22startDate%22%3A1964%2C%22endDate%22%3A1964%2C%22fieldDate%22%3A%22dataNormal%22%2C%22_perPage%22%3A20%2C%22numeroRivista%22%3A5%7D%7D&amp;riviste_facet=%22entertainment%22&amp;lang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Brigitte Bardot<\/strong><\/a>, the \u201cpremi\u00e8re dame de France\u201d, but this was an accolade she would soon share with the star of <em>Vado e Torno<\/em> in July 1964. This was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fondazionepirelli.org\/archivio-storico\/pubblicazioni-e-riviste\/search\/IT-PIRELLI-BIB0001-0023395\/result.html?query=Catherine+col+cuore+in+gola&amp;titoloRivista=&amp;autoreRivista=&amp;startDate=&amp;endDate=&amp;categoriaRivista=&amp;testoRivista=&amp;numeroRivista=&amp;lang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Catherine Deneuve<\/strong><\/a>, who just won the <strong>Cannes Grand Prix<\/strong> for <em>The Umbrellas of Cherbourg<\/em> and a few years later, in 1967, she was to become the shameful S\u00e9verine in Bu\u00f1uel\u2019s <em>Belle de Jour<\/em>. In September 1965 and April 1966, Italian readers marvelled at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fondazionepirelli.org\/archivio-storico\/bookreader\/pubblicazioni-e-riviste\/VadoeTorno\/1965_9.html?q=Ursula%20che%20venne%20dal%20mare&amp;start=20&amp;lang=en#page\/20\/mode\/2up\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Ursula Andress<\/strong><\/a>, who was already famous for her outfit in <em>Dr No<\/em>: the scene in which the splendid Swiss actress emerges from the Caribbean waters of Crab Key had already made history. The last star \u2013 ending the series of actresses on the front cover of <em>Vado and Torno<\/em>, in January 1972 \u2013 was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fondazionepirelli.org\/archivio-storico\/pubblicazioni-e-riviste\/search\/result.html?query=&amp;jsonVal=%7B%22jsonVal%22%3A%7B%22query%22%3A%22Pamela%22%2C%22startDate%22%3A1972%2C%22endDate%22%3A1972%2C%22fieldDate%22%3A%22dataNormal%22%2C%22_perPage%22%3A20%2C%22numeroRivista%22%3A1%7D%7D&amp;riviste_facet=%22entertainment%22&amp;lang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Pamela Tiffin<\/strong><\/a>, from Oklahoma City, known \u2013 though not universally \u2013 in Italy for her part in <strong>Dino Risi<\/strong>\u2019s <em>Torture Me But Kill Me with Kisses<\/em> with <strong>Nino Manfredi<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>We end this anthology with an actress whose life is a mystery: her name is <strong>Liz Allsop<\/strong> and she appears on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fondazionepirelli.org\/archivio-storico\/pubblicazioni-e-riviste\/search\/result.html?query=&amp;jsonVal=%7B%22jsonVal%22%3A%7B%22query%22%3A%22La+lepre+e+la+tartaruga%22%2C%22startDate%22%3A%22%22%2C%22endDate%22%3A%22%22%2C%22fieldDate%22%3A%22dataNormal%22%2C%22_perPage%22%3A20%7D%7D&amp;riviste_facet=%22entertainment%22&amp;lang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">July 1966 cover<\/a> with a white dress bearing a map of the Autostrada del Sole, from Milan to Naples. She is the blonde at the wheel of the <strong>Jaguar<\/strong> in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fondazionepirelli.org\/archivio-storico\/audiovisivi\/detail\/IT-PIRELLI-AV0001-000080\/la-lepre-e-tartaruga.html?jsonVal={%22jsonVal%22:{%22query%22:%22lepre%22,%22startDate%22:%22%22,%22endDate%22:%22%22,%22fieldDate%22:%22dataNormal%22,%22_perPage%22:20}}&amp;attachmentMisc=undefined&amp;lang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>The Tortoise and the Hare<\/em><\/a>, a road movie by the director of <em>Chariots of Fire<\/em> <strong>Hugh Hudson<\/strong>, produced by the British Pirelli to celebrate the <strong>Cinturato tyre<\/strong>.
