The Stratos is the best car and the P7 would have been perfect on the snow, too.\u201d It was <strong>24 January\u00a0<\/strong><strong>\u00a01976<\/strong> when <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fondazionepirelli.org\/archivio-storico\/audiovisivi\/detail\/IT-PIRELLI-AV0001-000540\/rally-10.html?jsonVal={%22jsonVal%22:{%22query%22:%22Sandro%20Munari%22,%22startDate%22:%22%22,%22endDate%22:%22%22,%22fieldDate%22:%22dataNormal%22,%22_perPage%22:20}}&amp;attachmentMisc=undefined&amp;lang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Sandro \u201cDragon\u201d Munari<\/strong><\/a>, together with <strong>Silvio Maiga <\/strong>in the <strong>Lancia Stratos<\/strong> no. 10 \u2013 won <strong>the Monte Carlo Rally<\/strong>. Forty years ago.<\/p>\n<p>Although Munari had full confidence in the reliability of the tyres in dry conditions, he might have had some doubts about them on the snow&#8230; But the debut on the rally scene \u2013 at Monte Carlo in 1976 \u2013 of the brand-new <strong>Pirelli P7<\/strong>, which had been specially developed for the Lancia Stratos Alitalia, and which was being used for the first time as the \u201c<strong>mono-tyre<\/strong>\u201d, could not have been more successful. So successful that, on the only snow test on the entire route, the innovative ultra-low-profile created by Pirelli technicians had proved its absolute superiority. \u201cWhat emerged was something quite extraordinary:\u00a0<strong>a snow tyre with a racing compound<\/strong>\u201d, said the Dragon. Enough to allow the Stratos to handle it well even without studded treads.<\/p>\n<p>The first across the line on 24 January was Munari-Maiga\u2019s Stratos no. 10. The second was another Stratos: the no. 6, with <strong>Waldegaard-Thorszelius<\/strong>, the Swedish team. And yet another Stratos came third: the all-French <strong>Bernard Darniche <\/strong>and <strong>Alain Mah\u00e9 <\/strong>team, in no. 12. This hat-trick would have been enough to establish the absolute superiority of Pirelli at Monte Carlo in 1976, but the festivities also included the German team, with <strong>Walter Rohrl <\/strong>and <strong>Jochen Berger<\/strong>, who came in fourth in their <strong>Opal Kadett GT\/E<\/strong>.
