In the exhibition we looked back at the evolution of <strong>Winter tyres<\/strong>, as interpreted by great painters, designers, and photographers in the company&#8217;s most famous advertising campaigns. The first Pirelli winter tyre, the <strong>Artiglio<\/strong>, appeared in the April 1932 price list as an alternative to the Normale tread pattern for cord tyres. It was a tread \u201cfor snow, frost, and wet roads\u201d, that produced a \u201ccog-wheel effect&#8221; in the harshest road conditions. In 1951 the new <strong>Inverno<\/strong> tread pattern was studied and marketed, and in 1957 came the Nuovo Inverno version. The Dutchman Bob Noorda designed the advertisements, taking inspiration from the tracks left by his skis on the snow, from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fondazionepirelli.org\/archivio-storico\/disegni-e-manifesti\/detail\/IT-PIRELLI-OA0001-0000003372\/bozzetto-pubblicita-del-pneumatico-inverno-pirelli.html?jsonVal=%7b%22jsonVal%22:%7b%22startDate%22:%22%22,%22endDate%22:%22%22,%22fieldDate%22:%22dataNormal%22,%22_perPage%22:20,%22autoreAmbitoIco%22:%22Noorda,%20Bob%22%7d%7d&amp;attachmentMisc=undefined&amp;lang=en\">geometrical shapes of snow crystals<\/a>, and even from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fondazionepirelli.org\/archivio-storico\/disegni-e-manifesti\/detail\/IT-PIRELLI-OA0001-0000003373\/bozzetto-pubblicita-del-pneumatico-inverno-pirelli-1.html?jsonVal=%7b%22jsonVal%22:%7b%22startDate%22:%22%22,%22endDate%22:%22%22,%22fieldDate%22:%22dataNormal%22,%22_perPage%22:20,%22autoreAmbitoIco%22:%22Noorda,%20Bob%22%7d%7d&amp;attachmentMisc=undefined&amp;lang=en\">the stylised profile of a fir tree<\/a>.\u00a0 And <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fondazionepirelli.org\/archivio-storico\/disegni-e-manifesti\/detail\/IT-PIRELLI-OA0001-0000003361\/bozzetto-pubblicita-del-pneumatico-bs3-pirelli.html?jsonVal=%7b%22jsonVal%22:%7b%22query%22:%22Manzi%22,%22startDate%22:%22%22,%22endDate%22:%22%22,%22fieldDate%22:%22dataNormal%22,%22_perPage%22:20%7d%7d&amp;attachmentMisc=undefined&amp;lang=en\">Riccardo Manzi<\/a>, Alessandro Mendini, Ilio Negri and Giulio Confalonieri were also called in by Pirelli to create advertisements for the company\u2019s entire range of winter tyres. For the launch of the <strong>BS<\/strong>, the first detachable tyre tread, <strong>Ermanno Scopinich<\/strong> immortalised a group of ice skaters at the ice stadium in Cortina d&#8217;Ampezzo in a photo shoot and a TV commercial. The concept of the detachable tread achieved success in rallying in the late 1960s, and it was these races that gave the idea for a new technological leap forward in the field of winter tyres. This came in the form of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fondazionepirelli.org\/archivio-storico\/audiovisivi\/detail\/IT-PIRELLI-AV0001-000238\/cinturato-ms35.html?jsonVal=%7b%22jsonVal%22:%7b%22query%22:%22Cinturato%20MS35%20Rally%22,%22startDate%22:%22%22,%22endDate%22:%22%22,%22fieldDate%22:%22dataNormal%22,%22_perPage%22:20%7d%7d&amp;attachmentMisc=undefined&amp;lang=en\">Cinturato MS35 Rally<\/a>, the street version of which became what is now the extended Pirelli Winter range.
