Aleksandr Sergeyevich Pushkin was born 225 years ago in Moscow, on 6 June 1799, and died in Saint Petersburg on 10 February 1837. Poet, novelist and playwright, Pushkin is considered the father of Russian literature, his works have influenced the generations of writers who followed him and he is known as “The Omnipresent Poet” and “The Sublime” in his home country. His death, after a gun duel, is etched in the collective memory because he imagined the same fate for some of the characters in his novels and stories.
