    Guy de Maupassant

    Henri René Albert Guy de Maupassant was born on 5 August 1850 in Tourville-sur-Arques, France. A prolific author of short stories, novels and novellas, Maupassant was one of the leading exponents of French Naturalism, strongly influenced by Gustave Flaubert and Émile Zola. His writing often exposed the hypocrisy of the nineteenth-century bourgeoisie and the injustices endured by the lower classes. Among his most celebrated works are Bel-Ami, A Life, and Strong as Death.
