Chinamen
Matteo Demonte and Ciaj Rocchi unlock a century of history of the Chinese community in Milan, starting from the imperial delegation that arrived in the city for the 1906 Expo and from the first pearl traders who settled near the Via Canonica. As in the previous Primavere e autunni, which mainly looked at the story of Matteo Demonte’s grandfather, here too we have a graphic novel based on considerable archival research, interviews, and in-depth analyses that give this comic book real historical depth. The stunning plates are based on photographs, postcards, and vintage materials, bringing to life the faces of the many characters in a story that looks at the numerous lives that, over the course of a century, have helped form one of the largest Chinese communities in Italy.
