With Japanese Steps
Fifteen stories, fragments of prose poetry, daily inspirations, confessions, and photographs of an existence. Pages that retrace moments in the life of Patrizia Cavalli, an Italian poet whose precise, elegant style, which is down-to-earth and never excessive, is always a revelation. The protagonist of the first story, a Sardinian woman who is ashamed of her accent and body, delicately moves “with Japanese steps” around the local market, entering into fleeting conversations that make her forget her flaws. She wanders around the town looking for stories into which she can channel her envy, which is so abstract that it finds its object in everything. On each page, we find the author’s poetry, with existential reflections, evocative images, memories, and assorted thoughts. Con passi giapponesi Patrizia Cavalli Einaudi, 2019
