Elsa Morante
Elsa Morante was born in Rome on 18 August 1920 and died in the same city on 25 November 1985. Writer, poet and translator, Elsa Morante was the first woman to win the Strega prize, in 1957, with her novel Arturo’s Island. In addition to her novels, including the celebrated History, she wrote a vast number of short stories, poetry collections and essays.
