The story is told by a narrator, and we never hear a conversation or even a single word spoken by the protagonists: a girl and a boy They are neighbours, but when they leave the building, she always turns left and he always turns right. Will they ever manage to meet or has destiny traced out parallel paths for them, giving them no hope of ever encountering each other?
