Italo Svevo
Aron Hector Schmitz, better known as Italo Svevo, was born in Trieste on 19 December 1861 and died in Motta di Livenza on 13 September 1928. His first two novels were not very successful, but encouraged by his friend and English tutor James Joyce, Svevo decided to continue and publish his third novel Zeno’s Conscience, finally gaining the attention of critics and the public, also thanks to the attention that the novel received abroad.
