Black Cats Bookshop
‘Les chats noirs’ is a bookshop specialised in crime novels, opened in Cagliari by Marzio Montecristo, who decided to give it this name in honour of two cats he calls Miss Marple and Poirot, just like the two famous protagonists in Agatha Christie's books. Every Tuesday, the bookshop hosts a reading group, “The Tuesday detectives”, whose members, as its name clearly suggests, are crime novel enthusiasts. In Piergiorgio Pulixi's new novel, this group of makeshift detectives will end up helping out chief constable Angela Dimase in resolving a complex case: that of a killer who has his victims choose who will die next, giving them just a minute to decide – this is why the killer has been nicknamed “the hourglass killer”. A masterfully written crime novel and rife with literary references, as well as a few well-placed twists that will surprise and touch readers. A touch of irony makes the story lighter and defuses the tension building as the story unravels and the gory murders continue.
