To Remake the World
The power of the word is creative. Ilaria Rigoli uses poetry to recreate the world, an arduous undertaking, for which you need “good words/ strong words/ green words”, but also silence, hands and time; “you need stories, songs/ you need hoes, pickaxes”. And so, for each word, short poems come to life, marked by the passing of the seasons, through which the author reconstructs the thoughts, feelings, desires and relationships of a child, all accompanied with delicate illustrations by Ilaria Faccioli. We find words like ‘Rain’ and the sadness it brings, or ‘Tree’, with the roughness of its bark, ‘Moon’, delicate in the night and ‘Nearly’, a word that bears the emotion of waiting with it. ‘Enough’, a word that denotes exasperation but also a desire for change or ‘Nanny’, a soft, fragrant word, reflected in every household item, even when she’s no longer there. In the simplicity of the poetic words of this book you can find the pure pleasure of reading and the desire to see the world through the curious, surprised-filled eyes of a boy.
