I Bonora
Hacca Edizioni publishes an unpublished text by Giovanni Pirelli, Leopoldo's brother and a leading anti-fascist intellectual of the twentieth century. The novel, which opens with a foreword by Giuseppe Lupo, recounts the Bonora family saga, starting with the death, in 1935, of Patriarch Emanuele, founder of Officine Meccaniche Bonora. The novel then follows the fate of his son Giulio and his grandchildren, Michele and Andrea, the latter of whom shares many characteristics with the author, who is also the descendant of a great Italian business family. The fate of the protagonists is intertwined with the history of Italy on the eve of the Second World War, and the grandchildren will be called upon to decide which side to take in the face of the coming war, which will ask young people to sacrifice their lives. Thanks to the commitment of the publisher and the heirs of Giovanni Pirelli in publishing this valuable text, for the first time, we can read an extraordinary book that, after Lupo's introductory analysis, presents two narrative threads: “on one hand, a novel about business, on the other, a resistance novel.”
