A Front-page Business
Working with key figures from the world of Italian and global culture, over the years Pirelli has entered into a unique conversation between art and technology. In this session, the students will see how photographers, artists, designers, and writers have portrayed factory life and work in very different ways. In particular, the focus will be on the Rivista Pirelli – a prime example of science and the arts coming together – and on photographic reportages in factories by modern photographers. Articles, advertisements, illustrations, and photos will introduce some of the top names of the twentieth-century, such as Eugenio Montale, Dino Buzzati, Italo Calvino, Bob Noorda, Gio Ponti, and Ugo Mulas. The students will discover how art, photography, graphic design, and writing can tell the story of manufacturing, technology, and social change.
The workshop will end with a creative design challenge: creating a magazine cover for the businesses of tomorrow. Using pictures and headlines, it will take on ideas such as sustainability and technological innovation to open up new frontiers.
