Racing Toward a Sustainable Future
Speed is the soul of sport, but behind every curve, every overtaking move, and every finish line lies far more than just a powerful engine. There is research, engineering, passion, and – today more than ever – care for the environment. Through historical documents and a visit to the exhibition L’Officina dello Sport, the students will discover the long and meticulous work behind the creation of a tyre, and how technology makes it safer, more efficient, and increasingly sustainable. The programme addresses issues such as environmental and social sustainability, beginning with the world of two- and four-wheel racing: from the responsible selection of raw materials to the use of renewable energy and recycled materials. Even the most adrenaline-fuelled competitions, such as Formula 1, are becoming testbeds for green innovation. Modern tyres are not only high-performance, but also designed to reduce environmental impact.
Working in teams, the students will design and program a Formula 1 model capable of racing on a circuit filled with unexpected obstacles – just like the challenges we face when creating a more just, responsible, and sustainable world.
The session will take place at the Pirelli Foundation and is for one class.
