Pirelli,When History Builds the Future
An exhibition that celebrates 150 years of research and innovation
Pirelli: When History Builds the Future is an exhibition that takes the visitor on a journey through the Pirelli Foundation to discover 150 years of research and innovation, from past memories to future scenarios. This research has its roots in the world of sports competitions, starting with the first international four-wheel contest, the Peking-Paris Motor Race, before moving onto roads all across the world, with products designed for mass mobility. This transformation has involved not just technological design and the experimentation of increasingly sustainable and cutting-edge materials, but also cultural activities.
The display combines video installations and digital presentations with original documents from the huge heritage of materials preserved in our Historical Archive.
The topics that the exhibition examines in detail include the virtualisation of tyres and their evolution over time. A “round black object” only apparently unchanged and unchangeable, which has never ceased to fascinate and inspire artists, graphic designers and engineers: from its Research and Development to its corporate culture, Pirelli has managed to transform it into a journey into the future.
