The Invisible Heart of a Tyre
The Invisible Heart of a Tyre, which went on display in 2011 at Pirelli HangarBicocca, showed the public the living, pulsating heart that brings to life the essential product that is the tyre.
What’s in a tyre? What is its “invisible heart” made of?
These questions were answered in the exhibition set up in September 2011 by the Pirelli Foundation in the spaces of PirelliHangarBicocca, one of the most prestigious international venues for contemporary art exhibitions.
And here it was, the heart of the tyre, seen throughout its production in artistic installations, graphic elaborations, and multimedia tools.
From the raw material – natural rubber, represented by a forest of twenty-metre-tall rubber trees – to research and design, and the manual work of the sgorbiatore, or chiseller: all illustrated and interpreted in a contemporary artistic language that showed the general public a complex but fascinating industry that is often a mystery to most.
