Andrea Camilleri
One hundred years ago, on 6 September 1925, Maestro Andrea Calogero Camilleri was born in Porto Empedocle. A novelist, screenwriter, director and playwright, Camilleri first gained recognition with novels set in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century in the fictional town of Vigata. He went on to achieve international fame with the Inspector Montalbano series, which established him definitively, and this was further amplified by the television adaptation broadcast on RAI from the late 1990s. His works include Il birraio di Preston, La concessione del telefono, Un filo di fumo, and the entire Montalbano series, beginning with La forma dell’acqua (The Shape of Water).
