Anne Brontë
Anne Brontë was born in Thornton, England, on 17 January 1820 and died in Scarborough on 28 May 1849. Along with her sisters Emily and Charlotte, Anne also began using male pen names, fearing the prejudice against women that was so prevalent in the Victorian era. Anne’s works, “Agnes Grey” and “The Tenant of Wildfell Hall”, did not achieve the success of the sisters’ novels and were little appreciated by critics at the time.
