Thus Spoke Blue Wolf
Blue Wolf is one of the many cubs in the Wolf Clan and, as such, must learn to hunt. After many months of lessons, the time comes for him and the other new cubs to display their skills to the pack’s elders. As part of this exercise, he must kill the rabbit he has befriended. Blue Wolf’s only option is to refuse and meet a certain death in exile. And so, instead of hunting, he begins telling stories, giving voice to poetic and timeless tales of love, loss, rebirth, resilience and courage.
Setting her words alongside the very delicate illustrations of Chiara Fedele, Elisabetta Dami takes the reader on a journey that is a metaphor for life, told with simplicity and naturalness: a path towards transformation which derives from Blue Wolf’s desire and ability to tell stories. Only by doing so will the protagonist find meaning in his existence, in a perfect circle squaring the past and the future. And his narrative style is almost “chant-like” and poetic. His stories within the story speak of someone who is “different”, struggling to emerge and not be torn apart – literally as well as figuratively – by the world. And yet, in his own way, he fights to be accepted for his difference.
This is a timeless adventure, set in a wild natural world, exploring the beauty of being different and the extraordinary power of stories.
