Emilio Salgari
Emilio Salgari was born in Verona on 21 August 1862 and died in Turin on 25 April 1911. Salgari was a great Italian writer who is famed mainly for the series of adventure novels devoted to the pirate Sandokan, nicknamed “The Tiger of Malaysia”, and for his series on the pirates of the Antilles. He was also one of the pioneers of Italian science fiction with his novel Le meraviglie del Duemila – the Wonders of the 2000s. His works include Le tigri di Mompracem, I pirati della Malesia, Il corsaro nero and Cartagine in fiamme.
