Fables for Robots
Dragons, kings, knights, princesses, castles, heroic exploits, and lies. These are some of recurrent themes in the fairy tales we all grew up with. But let's try to imagine what fairy tales would be like in a future world inhabited by robots: here we have Stanislaw Lem, taking us to a world where the fable is structured like human ones, but where the protagonists are digital machines fighting against dragons, electro-warriors in search of adventure, automata shipwrecked on desert islands. In this fine science-fiction book written in the 1960s and republished in 2005 by Marcos y Marcos, we find a passion for science and, especially, a powerful imagination and a true love of words. Lem's tales are filled with philosophical ideas that emerge from distant epochs and fantastical worlds, inspiring us to question ourselves about our own world and our own time.
