George Sand
Amantine Aurore Lucile Dupin, better known by her pseudonym George Sand, was born in Paris on 1 July 1804. A prolific French writer and playwright, she authored numerous novels, short stories and theatrical works. Sand took an active part in the political discourse of her time, championing feminist ideals and adopting a distinctly nonconformist stance. Her outspoken opposition to the papal policies of the era led to all her works being banned in 1863. Among her most notable writings are The Story of My Life, Little Fadette, and Indiana.
