Icone by Giovanna Mancini, Luiss University Press, is a book dedicated to the “myth, stories and figures of Italian design” (published as part of the intriguing “Bellissima” series curated by Nicoletta Picchio). Designers' creativity combines with the extraordinary technical skills of industrialists and artisans and results are showcased at the Milan Furniture Fair, a high-profile international event. The ten stories included in the book (featuring brands such as Alessi, Artemide, B&B, Caimi Brevetti, Cassina, Driade, Gufram, Kartell, Molteni and Zanotta) illustrate how, in the furnishing industry, a product’s beauty, quality and efficiency are inextricably linked and how, particularly in this sector, the “Made in Italy” concept comes to encompass aspects of Italian taste, lifestyle and culture appreciated all over the world.
