Black and white charcoal sketches blend with the sea's acrylic blue that – in the silent dialogue between the young protagonist and the wave – takes over progressively more space. They study, tease, touch and chase each other until they begin accepting one another. Through their dance, Suzy Lee plays with the concept of physical, emotional, psychological and material boundaries. The girl comes to the beach, sees the border between shoreline and water, stops, observes it, challenges it, gets scared, reaches out a hand and... her arm disappears through the binding. A mistake? Certainly not, and turning the page we soon realise that this is the turning point of the entire silent narrative, the physical and metaphorical boundary line that leads the protagonist to overcome her fear and experience the wonder of discovery. An illustrated book without words that gives readers the chance to unravel its multiple meanings on their own. L’onda Suzy Lee Edizioni Corraini, 2015
