Blue gold
Water is a precious and endangered good, as well explained by Edoardo Borgomeo, Water Resources Management researcher at the University of Oxford, in nine stories about water and climate change – from Brazil to the Netherlands, from Sicily to Bangladesh – published by Laterza. A planet in a global warming crisis means “melting glaciers, more unpredictable rain outpours, more frequent flooding, advancing desertification: water shows us the effects of global warming, as well as the probable cause of future wars.” Politics, economy, social issues and cultural conflicts intersect, and the lack of care for the environment and wasted water are precisely what is exacerbating tensions in many areas of the world. It thus becomes obvious that shared international political choices are now a matter of urgency, in order “to learn how to be part of our world without destroying it.” Oro blu.
