Pirelli, a history of enterprise:
Industry, People, Culture and Innovation

Giovanni Battista Pirelli, from Varenna to the creation of a great international company

Drawing on history and current events, the exhibition tells the story of the rise and development of Pirelli. The company, which is both Italian and international, was the brainchild of Giovanni Battista Pirelli, who was born in Varenna. After graduating in Industrial Engineering from the Politecnico University of Milan and a period of training abroad, the young engineer opened Italy’s first rubber production plant in Milan in 1872. The Pirelli Group, which now has 18 factories in 12 countries, has never lost sight of the core values that have distinguished it for over 150 years: close attention to people, a solid corporate culture, research and innovation, and high-quality sustainable processes and products, always with an eye to the future
