From Track to Road

With Pirelli We Learn to... EXPERIMENT

Creating high-quality tyres requires extensive research and experimentation. Races on two and four wheels are a crucial open-air testing ground for Pirelli for the development of the models that we use every day on our roads. In cycling, motorcycling and car races, tyres are pushed to their absolute limit on the most demanding tracks in the world and in every imaginable weather condition. The technology gleaned from the track is transferred to the road, bringing comfort, safety and sustainability, along with advanced design and production processes.

ACTIVITY OVERVIEW
The course will start with words, a brief lexicon of the world of racing and rubber. This will take us through more than a century of racing, from the international Peking to Paris Motor Race in 1907 to the latest generations of Formula 1 tyres, taking in the most exciting stories of male and female drivers, from Juan Manuel Fangio to Maria Teresa de Filippis. The visit to the Pirelli Foundation, which is also home to the Historical Archive, will help the students learn about the company’s history of innovation and technological advancements. But also of team work between technicians, workers and engineers in the laboratories and in Pirelli factories around the world, in the technological centres where people work with innovative robotic machines. The students, divided into groups, will build, program and operate a small Formula 1 car.

OBJECTIVES
The course aims to highlight the importance of research and experimentation in order to bring innovation to any field of human knowledge and action. Assisted also by the practical activities, the students will strengthen their teamwork abilities and find out about the world of robotics and coding.

The course will be in the form of an in-person meeting.
