Snapshots of Reality
With Pirelli We Learn to... SEARCH
A company’s historical archive is a treasure trove that can help us unlock the secrets of the past, and that can inspire us to improve our present, and shape our future- Every document and image, when scrutinised and compared with other sources, becomes a story waiting to be told.
ACTIVITY OVERVIEW
We will explore the online pages of the Pirelli Historical Archive with its letters, posters, magazines, films and project designs. And, in particular, we shall delve into the photographic archive: hundreds of thousands of shots in the form of negatives, prints and slides that show us factories, trade fairs, products, people at work and machinery, sporting events and much more besides. The students will work in groups, observing and analysing both older and more recent photographs. Their task will be to form groups and conduct historical research and convey, in their own words and with sound recordings, the “fragments of reality” that have been captured by the photographer’s lens.
OBJECTIVES
This course aims to introduce students to the concept of historical archives and the importance of preserving collective memory. They will also learn to recognise the various types of documents and to search sources in order to carry out scientifically based research online. In particular, they will improve their ability to interpret a photograph and use it as evidence to investigate and understand historical phenomena.
The course will consist of two online meetings.
