Tyres in Your Headphones. Stories of Innovation
With Pirelli We Learn to... INNOVATE
Innovation requires the ability to introduce changes with the aim of obtaining significant improvements in terms of efficiency, quality or added value. Throughout its long history, Pirelli has always tried to anticipate the future through its constant research into new processes and products. The real challenge today, however, is to reconcile technological innovation and sustainability.
ACTIVITY OVERVIEW
Since 1872 Pirelli has introduced great scientific and technological innovations brought about by the commitment of thousands of people who work every day in the Research and Development laboratories around Italy and in the various company subsidiaries across the world. By examining historical and contemporary documents, images and videos, the students will explore Pirelli’s technological development, from the introduction of recycled and non-fossil ingredients for the creation of its compounds, to the virtualisation of tyres. After analysing the various stages involved in creating a podcast, they will then be helped to conceive, design, draft and record an episode of their own that highlights key innovations in tyre production, including renewable materials, innovative designs, process efficiency, and reduced consumption, from the Cinturato to the Elect range, to Cyber Tyre technology and the PZero E tyre, a champion of technology and sustainability.
OBJECTIVES
The course will explain the value of innovation, which calls for the introduction of new technologies but also for attention to be paid to the environment and people, as well as the ability to predict future scenarios. In their group work, the students will improve their ability to understand information and critically research sources, and they will plan and test their expressive skills with a fair dose of imagination and courage.
The course will consist of three or four sessions and may be carried out entirely online or it may include a visit to the Pirelli Foundation, to be agreed upon, subject to availability.
