A heart of rubber. Beauty and technique in step with fashion
It all began with the rubber tree and with the first rubber ball in Mayan times. And it continues to this day in the world of fashion in the form of raincoats, rain boots, swimwear, and other articles to keep you dry in the wet.
Over a century of customs and manufacturing history in the quest for new applications of materials and processes. This is the concept underlying the exhibit sponsored by the Pirelli Foundation to be hosted at the Triennale di Milano from 21 June to 24 July (free to the public).
A journey through experiences and images, technology and innovation, and through Pirelli marketing within the clothing industry. An absolutely innovative way to see fashion as history and customs, featuring the advertising sketches and photos of the leading graphic designers and photographers of the 20th century (such as Munari, Mendini, Grignani, Scopinich, Noorda, Mulas, and others) thrust into the 21st century in a multimedia interpretation.
A blend of history and modernity, historical images presented using the latest multimedia techniques in a series of installations that tell of the evolution of industrial design and of the most technologically sophisticated materials used in fashion, right from the first “rubberised” articles of clothing –raincoats, capes and swimwear, as well as rubber soles and heels, all both elegant and functional. Original, innovative creations in their time. Equally innovative today the multimedia used to present the symbol, the dream, and the future. The unifying theme? Creative sophistication.
