The Company Past and Present

Pirelli, a century and a half of company history The history of Pirelli is that of one of the longest-lived multinational corporations in Italy. Founded in Milan in 1872 as a brilliant idea by Giovanni Battista Pirelli, a young graduate from the Politecnico University of Milan, it now works in 12 countries with 19 production plants. By looking at and reading the rich documentary heritage preserved at the Pirelli Foundation, this workshop retraces the main events in the company’s development in terms of its production and organisation, paying particular attention to the most recent digitisation processes. A story of people, technology and a capacity for innovation that has made Pirelli one of the greatest agents of change in industry, in Italy and around the world. A corporate culture that combines science and humanism. The course will be held entirely online and will consist of one or more meetings, depending on the needs of the teachers and students. The course can also be followed by a thematic guided tour in the Lavazza Museum in Turin

Corporate Communication

Pirelli, a century and a half of corporate culture

Promoting the historical, scientific and cultural heritage of a company is essential for sustaining its growth and continuing to innovate even after 150 years. The Pirelli Historical Archive holds more than three and a half kilometres of documents dating from 1872 to the present day. One of the key tasks of the Pirelli Foundation is to open up this heritage not just to the over 30,000 employees but to everyone across the world – a vast audience that, in particular, includes historians, graphic designers, engineers and architects. Exhibitions, webinars, guided tours and educational workshops, refresher courses for teachers, events to promote reading, and publications and concerts all help understand Pirelli’s corporate culture.

The course will be held entirely online and will consist of one or more meetings, depending on the needs of the teachers and students.
