Earthsea
Earthsea. A world made up of archipelagos and islands scattered across the vast sea, populated by dragons and fantastic creatures. Duny is an ambitious young goatherd, who grew up in a rural village, who is determined to become a wizard. The young man will take up an apprenticeship with the wizard Ogion, assuming the name of Ged, and then leave for the island of Roke, where the School of Wizardry is to be found. The character’s formative journey will lead him to become Dragonlord, destined to have to contend with the darkest forces of his world and his own inner reality. Tenan is the high priestess of the Tombs of Atuan, destined for her role from birth and able to navigate the darkness of these sacred places. The Earthsea saga, published over the course of more than three decades, narrates the epic deeds of these and many other characters. Ursula K. Le Guin was one of the most innovative writers in the fantasy genre as well as science fiction from the end of the 1960s, and was honoured with many accolades. With the novels and stories of Earthsea she gave life to an original, enchanted world, in which the contest of good and evil, light and darkness, takes on a more complex perspective and the main characters have to confront their own inner demons, finding a balance between these two forces.
