Treasure Palaces
Treasure Palaces is the title of an original book, edited by Maggie Ferguson and published by The Economist. It accompanies the reader on a journey in which “Great Writers Visit Great Museums”, starting from the idea that museums are places where we can discover the past, reflect on our idea of the world and gain insights that will guide us in the future. The second key concept is that seeing a work of art or an object worthy of being remembered is ultimately a very personal and different experience for each of us. And the experience of those with inquisitive eyes and a sophisticated use of words can inspire and enrich us. So here we have Roddolo Doyle guiding us through the Lower East Side Tenement Museum, “a museum of everyday people” in New York, Julian Barnes in the house museum of Sibelius in Finland (music, nature, melancholy), Ali Smith among the collections at the Villa San Michele in Capri, breathing in the atmospheres of Axel Munthe, and much more besides. Museums are “places where values resist”. Pezzi da museo edited by Maggie Fergusson Sellerio, 2019
